The Children of Ecuador Foundation has completed several major projects.
Our First Project!
In February of 2005, Children of Ecuador donated $5,000 that was used to provide Escuela Una de Octobre and the community of La Florida with their first ever bathroom facility. Two flush toilets, a sink, shower, and drinking facility were provided. Many of the residents and students had to learn how to use a flush toilet. Prior to this project, the students had to go to the washroom over a cliff and in a dugout hole!
School Projects
In March of 2006, the Foundation funded the building of a second classroom for Escuela Una de Octobre. The previous classroom was made from bamboo and had dirt floors. The new classroom provides the students with a clean, protected area for their daily studies! In July of 2008, we were in Ecuador to place the first brick into the 3rd classroom for Escuela Una de Octobre. The classroom now allows for a greater number of students to access education in an area of the world where many children do not attend school.
Over the past few years, Children of Ecuador has also built a small playground and contributed to the soccer field.
Goodwill Trips
April of 2007, the Foundation facilitated a trip for 47 individuals to go to Ecuador to take part in a variety of projects. The group took Bahia by storm in the two week volunteering adventure. We also travelled to Bahia and area in July of 2008 with 42 people.
Since 2008, Children of Ecuador has partnered with Planet Drum and funded their Bioregional Education program. A link to the program is HERE. Reports from the program to Children of Ecuador are HERE.
Children of Ecuador also sponsors 10 students a year to attend Genesis Private School in Bahia de Caraquez, Ecuador. A list of students is HERE . At Genesis, the students receive a daily lunch, transportation, medical checkups, and 9 months of high quality education. This opportunity changes the lives of not only the children, but their families.
School Sponsorship
Children of Ecuador continues to support the rural school of Escuela Una de Octobre. Over the past 6 years, we have provided the funding to allow this school to grow in numbers, resources, and opportunity. We have helped provide the school with an infrastructure that will allow for long term education for the children in the remote area of La Florida.
The school now has consistent teachers who are trained and paid fairly. The school has expanded from one to three classrooms, and is now a source of pride for the community. Computer access has been created and we have provided the tools and resources for daily learning that at one point never existed.
